Hurricanes

Grade Level: 6th

Subject: Science

Time Frame: 8 weeks (August/September)

Essential Questions

- How do the states of matter relate to the formation of hurricanes?
- How does density and pressure relate to the formation of hurricanes?
- How does heat and air flow relate to the formation of hurricanes?

By the end of the unit, students will know:

- what an atom is
- the various states of matter as well as what evaporation and condensation are
- how heat capacity effects things in our world

By the end of the unit, students will be able to:

- collect and graph data for an experiment
- design and build both a mass and volume measuring device
- relate pressure to how hurricanes move
- relate the Coriolis effect to the motion of hurricanes
